DNS records connect names such as your domain, www and mail to web, email and verification services. Obtain the exact record type, name and value from the service you are connecting.
Steps
- Open cPanel → Domains → Zone Editor and select Manage beside the correct domain.
- Search for an existing record with the same name and type. Edit it when the provider says to replace a value; do not create conflicting duplicates.
- Choose Add Record, select A, AAAA, CNAME, MX or TXT, and enter the supplied name, TTL and value exactly. cPanel may append the domain automatically.
- For MX records, also check cPanel → Email Routing. Use Local only when this server receives the domain’s mail; otherwise choose the setting required by the external provider.
- Save the record. Keep a note of the previous value so you can reverse the change if the connected service fails.
Verify the result
Reopen Zone Editor to confirm the saved value. Then use the receiving service’s verification test; public DNS caches may retain the old value until its TTL expires.
Important: Do not delete cPanel-generated records in bulk. A wrong MX, SPF, DKIM or DMARC change can stop mail delivery even when the website still works.
