Your first cPanel setup checklist Print

  • 0

Complete these checks before publishing a new site. They prevent the most common domain, security and recovery problems.

Steps

  1. Open cPanel from the hosting service in the client area; bookmark the official address, not a link from an unknown email.
  2. In Contact Information, add an external email address and enable account and quota notices.
  3. Open Domains and confirm each domain and document root. Remove test files only after downloading anything you may need.
  4. Open SSL/TLS Status, confirm AutoSSL coverage, then enable Force HTTPS Redirect under Domains.
  5. Create needed mailboxes under Email Accounts, use unique passwords, and download a full or partial backup before major work.

Verify the result

Visit the domain over HTTPS, send a test message in both directions, and make sure the external contact address receives cPanel notices.

Important: Never send your cPanel password by email. Create separate FTP, database and mailbox credentials when access must be shared.
